Hillmont Partners’ International Dispute Resolution practice achieves multi-million dollar settlement deal within English proceedings

Hillmont Partners’ International Dispute Resolution practice and Astraea Group led by James Ramsden QC and Robert Bedford secured a successful settlement within English High Court proceedings.

They were assisted by Philippe Kuhn of 39 Essex Chambers and English solicitors Preiskel & Co led by Robert Dougans. The result was achieved after obtaining a Worldwide Freezing Order at the High Court of Justice against 28 separate individual and corporate respondents located across multiple jurisdictions as part of a legal strategy developed and implemented by Hillmont Partners and Astraea Group.

The main English proceedings related to corporate loan liabilities owed to Hillmont’s client. Following successful action in the English High Court, Hillmont supported settlement negotiations and coordinated the execution of a comprehensive settlement agreement under English law.

The principal claims within the English proceedings were made under Section 423 of the UK Insolvency Act 1986 and for damages for unlawful means conspiracy in tort. The claim value was at over €230 million. Hillmont’s legal guidance and support resulted in a multi-million dollar settlement in favour of its client.

Counsel Andrii Chornous, Senior Associates Sergii Regeliuk and Ivan Kovalenko and Associate Bohdan Novyk led by Co-Managing Partner James Hart represented the client’s interests in this complex case.
