Ukraine Davos Discussion Forum “Ukraine: Fertile Ground for Responsible Investment?” Was held in Davos, Switzerland, on the impact of enterprises with foreign investment on the Ukrainian economy.

We discussed the challenges that face companies willing to invest in Ukraine, following the principles of responsible investment, in an environment where many others fail to comply. We have heard examples from the experience of foreign investors and how important it is for them to work with transparent and responsible local companies,

The participants on the panel noted significant regulatory progress in Ukraine, which helps businesses invest more responsibly and efficiently. “The rule of law remains a key obstacle to investment increasing from abroad, but it was felt that the difficulties of doing business in Ukraine are often exaggerated. Summing up the conversation, I see some reason for optimism”,- summarizes James Hart.

James Popperwell, Partner, delivered an insightful talk about litigation in the English courts, describing a number of options available to claimants, including powerful interim measures such as worldwide freezing orders.

The two-day International Comparative Insolvency Symposium, organized and hostedby the University of Miami School of Law on 14-15 November 2019, brought together a wide variety of insolvency academics and practitioners from across the globe to discuss foreign and domestic insolvency lawtopics.
    
Particular attention was granted topreventive restructuring and corporate rescues in different jurisdictions, as well as to cross-border insolvency issues.
    
Hillmont Partners’ Senior Associate, Olha Stakheyeva-Bogovyk, spoke on the preventive restructuring panel. She provided insight into the preventive restructuring framework in Ukraine in light of the newly enacted Bankruptcy Code. Olha made a comparative analysis of the Ukrainian pre-insolvency framework against the English arrangement, the EU preventive restructuring framework and Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code.
   
The Symposium was deemed a resounding success, as it provided a unique international platform for the exchange of knowledge and practical advice between academics and practitioners in the field of insolvency & bankruptcy. Following the Symposium, the University of Miami International and Comparative Law Review will publish the comprehensive papers of the speakers.

On April 11, 2019, Inha Ishchenko attended the conference “Business and Conflicts 2019: Corporate Raiders. Competitors. Shadow Market”.

During the conference, business representatives shared their own experience in the field of asset protection from raider attacks, discussed practical cases, mistakes which should be avoided, and how to prevent or minimize risk of attacks.

Hillmont Partners co-hosted an event in partnership withthe Yalta European Strategy (YES) forum, which was held in Kyiv on September 13-15. James Hart, Serhii Nyzhnyi and Vadym Halaichuk, partners of Hillmont, participated in this event.
 
It should be noted that President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, European Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Special Representative of the US State Department Kurt Volker, Former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Tony Blair, Bono, Vitalik Boutin and many others attended the forum in 2018. CNN TV presenter Farid Zahariya and journalist Stephen Sakur, known for the program Hard Talk on the BBC, were the moderators of the discussions.
