Hillmont Partners Co-Organised the 1st Conference on the Energy Law in Ukraine
On 9 October 2020, the Ukrainian Bar Association hosted the 1st Conference on Energy Law. Hillmont Partners provided expert and sponsor support to the event.
Tetiana Mylenka, Counsel, Head of the firm’s Energy practice, moderated a practical discussion focused on the current challenges of the RES market in Ukraine. Top managers of the private and state energy companies, representatives of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and executives of the professional associations operating in the sector contributed to the session as speakers and highlighted the most painful regulations of the RES market which required immediate attention of the state authorities.
In her closing remarks following the session, Tetiana Mylenka noted that investors in RES expected the state to comply with the provisions of Law No. 810-IX and the concluded Memorandum of Understanding. Presently, the situation with payments by the Guaranteed Buyer to RES producers has somewhat improved but has not changed significantly. Launch of ‘green’ auctions, introduction of contracts for difference and development of corporate PPAs have been mentioned as long-awaited steps to fight the challenges in the sector.
